Latest Pennsylvania Sports:

(AP) Terrelle Pryor threw for two touchdowns and ran for another in his return to his home state and No. 15 Ohio State won a duel of the Big Ten's top two defenses with a 24-7 victory against No. 11 Penn State on Saturday.

The Buckeyes (8-2, 5-1 Big Ten) got an added bonus, too: a tie for the conference lead with Iowa after Northwestern handed the Hawkeyes their first loss of the season.

Left for dead in the Big Ten after a demoralizing loss at Purdue last month, Ohio State's hopes for a fifth straight league title look much brighter. A showdown with Iowa at the Horseshoe awaits next week.

Pryor's 62-yard touchdown pass to Devier Posey deflated the hostile crowd and gave Ohio State a 17-7 lead late in the third quarter.

Daryll Clark had the only score for Penn State (8-2, 4-2) with a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

PENGUINS-SHARKS Pavelski leads Sharks over Penguins 5-0

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Joe Pavelski had a goal and an assist in his first game back from the injured list and Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves and host San Jose beat the Penguins for the seventh straight time at home, 5-0 last night.

Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby was held pointless for a fourth straight game for the fourth time in his career. He hit the post with a shot early in the second period but was unable to convert against Nabokov.

Dan Boyle, Dany Heatley, Jamie McGinn and Manny Malhotra also scored for San Jose, which has eight wins and a tie at home against Pittsburgh since last losing to the Penguins at the Shark Tank 5-2 on Oct. 22, 1997, when Crosby was 10 years old.

FLYERS-BLUES Pyorala helps Flyers beat Blues in shootout

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Mika Pyorala scored in the shootout to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 2-1 victory over St. Louis last night.

Pyorala's goal in the fourth round was the difference as the Flyers won their fourth straight game. Philadelphia's Claude Giroux and St. Louis' Brad Boyes each scored in the first round.

Scott Hartnell scored in regulation for Philadelphia, which moved to 83-39-17 overall against the Blues, including 47-12-10 at home.

The struggling Blues, who entered with the NHL's fourth-worst record, have dropped four straight.

T25-SYRACUSE-PITTSBURGH No. 14 Pitt starts slowly but beats Syracuse 37-10

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Greg Williams' 51-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the first half got slow-starting Pittsburgh going, and the No. 14 Panthers extended their best start to a season since 1982 by beating Syracuse 37-10 on Saturday.

Dion Lewis ran for 110 yards and a touchdown for the freshman's sixth 100-yard game, tight end Dorin Dickerson caught his 10th touchdown pass this season and the Panthers (8-1, 5-0 in Big East) won their fifth in a row heading into next Saturday's game against No. 19 Notre Dame.

Bill Stull was 16 of 23 for 225 yards and no interceptions as the Panthers, who last were 8-1 during Dan Marino's senior season 27 years ago, set themselves up for a possible Big East title-deciding game against No. 4 Cincinnati on Dec. 5.

PHILLIES-SURGERIES Lidge, Ibanez, Eyre scheduled for surgery

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies closer Brad Lidge will have surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday.

Lidge is scheduled to have a loose body removed and Dr. Michael Ciccotti also will evaluate his right flexor/pronator tendon.

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. also announced Saturday night that outfielder Raul Ibanez and reliever Scott Eyre will have surgery on Monday. Dr. Bill Meyers will repair Ibanez's sports hernia and Ciccotti will remove loose bodies from Eyre's left elbow.

Lidge led the majors with 11 blown saves this season but was better in the playoffs as the Phillies reached the World Series before losing to the Yankees in six games. Ibanez hit a career-high 34 homers in his first season with Philadelphia. Eyre had a 1.50 ERA in 42 games.

STEELERS-CLARK No announcement on Clark expected until Monday

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers won't announce whether safety Ryan Clark will play in Denver until Monday night, although he is not expected to be in uniform.

Clark nearly died following a game in Denver two years ago because of a rare blood disorder that is aggravated by playing in high altitude. While Steelers coach Mike Tomlin has not publicly said so, he is believed to have told Clark to sit out the game.

Clark had his spleen and gall bladder removed during separate operations and he lost 30 pounds after the Oct. 21, 2007, game in Denver, which ended his season. Many of Clark's teammates told him he should skip the game.

Clark is not listed on the Steelers' injury report because he is not hurt and he practiced all week.

VILLANOVA-RICHMOND Harvey's catch lifts Villanova by Richmond 21-20

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Brandyn Harvey made a one-handed grab of Chris Whitney's fourth-down pass for a 29-yard touchdown with 59 seconds left and Villanova stunned Richmond 21-20 on Saturday night.

The Wildcats (8-1, 5-1 Colonial Athletic Association) ended a 17-game winning streak by Richmond, the defending national champions of the Football Championship Subdivision.

Villanova also beat the Spiders (8-1, 6-1) for the second year in a row, and did it after the Spiders went ahead for the first time with 2:22 left.

Richmond missed two field goals and two extra points, including the one after the go-ahead touchdown, as those failures proved to be the difference in the game.

The Spiders even gained one final chance to win it with a kick when they drove to the Wildcats' 17 with 10 seconds left, but Andrew Howard's 35-yard field goal try was wide left.

EASTON, Pa. (AP) — Rob Curley threw for 373 yards and a school-record seven touchdown passes to lead Lafayette to a 56-49 victory over Colgate on Saturday.

Every one of Lafayette's touchdowns came on scoring passes from Curley, a senior who was 18-for-31 and set a career high for passing yards in a game.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Garrett Clawson kicked a 20-yard field goal as time expired to propel Robert Morris to a 13-10 win over Albany (N.Y.) on Saturday.

Esposito was 13-for-31 with 168 yards and two interceptions for Albany (6-4, 5-2), who had their school record 12-game home winning streak halted.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) — Dominic Randolph threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Freddie Santana with 1:03 remaining to seal Holy Cross' 24-20 comeback win over Lehigh on Saturday.

The pair's second TD connection in the contest — they also got together on a 10-yard pass for a 17-10 Holy Cross (8-1, 4-0 Patriot League) lead midway through the third — capped the game-winning, 81-yard drive.

Lehigh (2-7, 2-2) tied the game at 17 late in the third on Jay Campbell's 18-yard TD pass to Alex Wojdowski. The Mountain Hawks pulled ahead on Jake Peery's 38-yard field goal with 13:36 left in the game, setting the stage for Randolph's game-winning TD pass just over 12 minutes later.
