Teen Killed In Westmoreland Co. Dirt Bike Accident
SOUTH HUNTINGDON TWP. (KDKA) ―
A teenager from Smithton was killed Sunday night after an accident on his dirt bike.
Adam Gemmell, 14, was following a friend who was on an ATV when he ran into a utility pole's guide wire.
Westmoreland County Coroner Ken Bacha says the wire hit Gemmell in the neck and face causing fatal injuries.
Gemmell was pronounced dead at the scene around 9 p.m.
The accident happened on Wohl Lane in South Huntingdon Township.
The coroner says Gemmell was an experienced rider and was wearing all of the necessary protective gear at the time of the accident.
Gemmell had just finished the 8th grade at Yough Middle School.
School officials say he was on the football team and involved in numerous other school activites.
They say he will be missed in the Yough community.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Bacha Funeral Home in Greensburg.
