Charges Filed In Ligonier Murder, Suspect In Texas

LIGONIER (KDKA) ― Charges have been filed in the murder of a Ligonier business man.

William McMichael Jones, 75, was found dead in his home which had been set on fire.

Police say Jones let 18-year-old Anthony Blaine Mowry into the house and then they had a few drinks.

"The defendant offered to have sex with Mr. Jones - he left the room - and when he returned he either beat Mr. Jones, stabbed Mr. Jones," Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck said.

Police say Mowry admitted to beating Jones with chimes from a grandfather clock, a candlestick and his fists and then admitting to stabbing and cutting his throat.

The he allegedly "stuck around."

"It appears from the evidence that the defendant remained in the house for sometime - some hours and then removed money from Mr. Jones," Peck said.

Mowry allegedly stole $400.

The DA says Mowry then set the house on fire in a number of different spots before leaving in Jones' Cadillac which was later recovered.

The DA says a woman who saw Mowry in that car helped lead police to him.

Jones was 75. He was the great grandson of one of the founding partners of Jones and Laughlin Steel and was also a former president of the Greensburg Tribune-Review.
