Detectives Find Leads In Ligonier Homicide

LIGONIER (KDKA) ― The District Attorney says detectives are following a number of productive leads in the case of a murdered Ligonier man.

The Westmoreland County Coroner conducted an autopsy on the body of Mike Jones, 75, but won't yet say whether the victim was shot. He has ruled the death a homicide.

According to a search warrant filed by Ligonier Borough Police, Jones was not completely clothed when he was found in his burned out home. It goes on to say that there were items on the floor near the victim's body that were not consistent with normal behavior.

Ligonier Police today turned the victim's Cadillac over to county detectives for processing. It was recovered last night after being spotted by a Donegal homeowner.

Officials won't identify a suspect, but do have a description of the last person seen with Jones' car. He's described as a white man in his mid 30's, about 5'6", with dark hair and a medium build.

Jones was a prominent member of the Ligonier community. He was a former president of the Greensburg Tribune Review. Family and friends will remember him tomorrow with a memorial service at the Holy Trinity Church in Ligonier.
