Alleged Burglar In Latrobe Caught On Tape

LATROBE (KDKA) ― State police need your help to identify a man who was caught on tape stealing from a Latrobe car shop.

Mike Bartow has owned Mike's Car Lot in Latrobe for 11 years. He says earlier this week a customer told him that they had seen a man taking a rim from behind the shop.

Bartow says he check his surveillance video and got a clear picture of the man.

He installed the $5,000 security system after some previous incidents with thieves. Bartow says his shop has been targeted at least three times in the last six months.

The surveillance video shows the thief casually walk up behind the shop. He takes a rim and a piece of aluminum scrap metal. He then leaves the scene.

Bartow says it's not about the value of the stuff. He says if someone asked him for the stuff, he'd probably give it to them. He says it's more about principle. He says this isn't the first time this has happened and he's fed up.

Bartow says he is planning to install more security cameras. He says the message to thieves is that if they come to his shop, they'll be caught.

State police say security cameras are a useful tool in catching thieves in cases like this one.

If you recognize the man in the surveillance video, contact state police in Greensburg.
