A Latrobe woman is headed to trial on charges that she was under the influence of heroin when she was in a crash that killed her two passengers.
Ashley Stumpf, 20, was driving on Route 981 near Slag Road when she lost control and slammed into a pickup truck.
Front seat passenger Jimmy Henderson, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene. Backseat passenger David Roble, 21, was ejected from the car and later died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital.
The crash happened on September 13, 2008. In September 2009, charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and related charges were filed.
At a preliminary hearing Wednesday, Stumpf entered a plea of not guilty.
Prosecutors say police officers found items associated with heroin use in Stumpf's purse including a burnt silver spoon, a used syringe and a piece of cotton.
Stumpf admitted to using heroin 10 hours before the crash. She told police that rainy conditions caused the crash.
A large group of family and friends showed up in support of Roble and Henderson.
Henderson leaves behind two daughters. Roble also has a daughter who was born just days before the crash.
Family members say both men were excellent fathers and are greatly missed.
Defense attorney Emily Smarto declined to comment after the hearing. A relative of Stumpf said only, "Our prayers are with her."
Stumpf is being held in the Westmoreland County Jail without bond.
