Teens Charged For Leading High Speed Chase

GREENSBURG (KDKA) ― Two teens are facing charges after leading police on a high-speed chase that began in Mount Pleasant and ended in Greensburg.

Police say the teens were spotted driving erratically through downtown Mount Pleasant in a 1996 Plymouth Neon around 1:30am Thursday.

When police tried to pull them over, the teens allegedly sped off onto Route 119 North and Toll Route 66 before getting onto Route 30.

Police say at times the teens were travelling at speeds over 120-miles per hour.

During the chase, the teens crashed through a gate at the tollbooth on Route 66 just barely missing a booth attendant. They also hit a tractor-trailer on Route 30.

More than ten police cars from multiple departments were involved in the chase, which ended when a state police cruiser hit the stolen car and caused it to spin out of control on Route 30.

The teens were arraigned at district court in Norvelt.

The juvenile driver, 16, who is from Acme, is charged with burglary, aggravated assault of a police officer, theft of a vehicle, recklessly endangering another person and related charges. He is being held in a juvenile detention center.

Meanwhile, the passenger, who has been identified only as a 15-year-old from Smithton, is charged with receiving stolen property.
