Brides-To-Be Sprint For The Perfect Dress

TOWSON, Md. (CBS) ― If you're a bride-to-be in the Baltimore area, you needed teamwork, quickness and a good pair of tennis shoes Friday morning.

Outside the Filene's Basement in the Baltimore suburb of Towson, a line formed 16 hours before doors opened at Filene's Basement for the annual Running of the Brides, reported CBS station WJZ-TV in Baltimore.

About 1,600 designer wedding gowns were up for grabs, even ones seen in magazines.

"They're all designer dresses, the ones you see in Wedding or Brides magazines. They're deeply discounted so people can save 95 percent on a wedding gown. They can get the deal of a lifetime here," said Pat Boudrot, spokesperson for Filene's Basement.

It took about 30 seconds for the racks to empty.

But Ashira Jensen found her "Carrie Bradshaw" gown for $249 about 25 minutes after the doors opened.

"It's very pretty. It has a gorgeous veil and I feel like it's a perfect fit. I'm getting married June 20, 2009," Jensen said.

It was a perfect ending to a Friday frenzy.

The Running of the Brides originated at the Filene's flagship store in Boston in 1947.
