Survey: Women Prefer Shopping To Sex, Sweets
CLIFTON, N.J. (CBS) ―
If you're a woman, it's no secret: we love to shop. But here's what a new survey finds that may surprise you. Women would prefer an unlimited clothing budget over sweets and even sex.
"I would agree with that," shopper Jill Manoff laughed. "Yeah, shopping is my main thrill in life."
"My wife would probably fall into that category. No question," one man said.
Emily McCombs with the lifestyle website
lemondrop.com conducted the survey of 15,000 women. They told her in addition to wanting all the money in the world to shop, they'd prefer spending it at discount stores over Prada.
"Most women are interested in target than they are in the high-end designers," McCombs said.
"You could actually, if you really take you time and shop, you can actually find the same kind of product," one woman said.
While Prada and Fashion Week weren't something women could relate to in the survey, they sure love one of the stars of the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." When asked whose fashion style they wanted to copy, Anne Hathaway won hands-down.
"She's wearable. You know? She wears something you would imagine wearing to work," said McCombs.
The key finding of the survey, if you haven't figured it out by now, is that most women would give up just about anything in exchange for an unlimited shopping budget.
"If I could shop and that was all I could do, I didn't have a budget and I could get whatever I wanted to, that would make me very happy," said Leah Keith, Manhattan resident.
"I want some good staple things in my closet," said Taylor Gildersleev.
And when it comes to shoes, the one staple men think women spend too much money on, the survey finds that women would rather buy a $50 pair of shoes rather than splurge on expensive ones.
The editors of lemondrop.com also asked women if they knew who Anna Wintour is? You know, she's the vogue editor-fashionista off whom "The Devil Wears Prada" is based.
Their answer: Anna who?
