Illinois-Shaped Corn Flake Nets $1,350 On eBay
CHICAGO (AP) ―
The McIntire sisters of Virginia sold their Illinois-shaped corn flake on eBay Friday night for $1,350.
"We were biting our nails all the way up to the finish, seeing what would happen," Melissa McIntire, 23, of Chesapeake, Va., said. "There's a lot of relief involved."
Melissa McIntire and her sister Emily McIntire, 15, listed the corn flake on eBay last week, but eBay canceled the auction saying it violated the Web site's food policy.
The sisters relisted their auction, and advertised a coupon redeemable for their corn flake, instead of the cereal itself.
After fraudulent bidding on the corn flake reached nearly $1 million, Melissa McIntire said Friday that the family is confident they will receive payment from the winning bidder. She said they had been in contact prior to the closing bid.
The McIntires said they'll likely use the money for a family vacation.
"We're so amazed that we sold this corn flake for more than a $1,000," Melissa McIntire said.
