Outlet Shoppers Could Face Construction Traffic

SOUTH STRABANE TWP (KDKA) ― With the Meadows Casino and the new Tanger Outlets expected to draw huge crowds on its first weekend, it's crunch time for road crews in Washington County.

The Holiday Inn in that area is booked for the weekend as well.

"Even with the roadwork being done, we'll have local police departments monitoring traffic, running the stop lights, expediting people in and out so there's no traffic backup, because the goal is not to create a traffic problem," Frank Salucci, general manager for Tanger Outlets, said.

Traffic was so bad in South Strabane Township Wednesday that police put out an advisory to avoid the area if possible. Those delays were caused by crews finishing up a paving project and some faulty lights. The work will be put on hold starting at Midnight through Tuesday, but after that, the work continues.

While police will do their best to keep things moving on weekend No. 1, next week crews will close off a bridge for three weeks for replacement. PennDOT says the work wasn't done sooner because of delays along the way, meaning an extra month of work. The work is being paid for by Tanger and The Meadows.
