Business Still Booming For The Meadows Casino
NORTH STRABANE TWP. (KDKA) ―
The Meadows Casino opened its doors about one year ago, and business has been booming ever since.
The slots casino is No. 1 in Pennsylvania in revenue on a per-machine basis.
General Manager Mike Graninger says he's not surprised.
"Actually, nothing surprised me. It surprised my boss," he said. " We're doing a lot better than he thought we would and it's because of our marketing and, of course, our employees. Our employees are the reason we are as successful as we are."
And with construction of the permanent casino with more slot machines, better parking and more restaurants on eight acres, officials with the casino believe business could double.
And that's a jackpot for local officials in North Strabane.
"We bought the fire department a $1 million truck. We paid off our debt. We've got a seven million dollar parks and recreation program," North Strabane Supervisors Chair Brian Spicer said. "All of this is because of the casino."
It's not just North Strabane, but all of Washington County that is benefiting as well from the higher than expected revenue.
The big question mark - once Don Barden's Majestic Star is up and running next summer, will that affect business at The Meadows?
Graninger says it won't because this region is full of people who like to play the slots.
