Fire Leaves Family Homeless In Washington County

CHARTIERS (KDKA) ― The state police fire marshal is investigating after a fire in Washington County overnight left a family homeless.

The fire started around 4 a.m. along Railroad Street in Chartiers.

The resident of the home, Eric Williams, said he woke up as the fire was going and had to help his cousin and girlfriend out.

"Get everybody up and out. You don't have a lot of time to think in a situation like that, you just, you start moving," said Williams. "I got my cousin up. He was right there beside me, and then I ran around to the side of the house to get her out the window. That was her only means of getting out. As soon as I opened the window, the flames started coming through to the bedroom. I just reacted."

Williams said his cousin received treatment at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

The home was destroyed and the Red Cross was assisting the residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
