Local Couples Renew Vows In World Record Attempt
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Valentine's Day may still be a few days away, but that didn't stop hundreds of local couples from celebrating the year's most romantic holiday a little early while at the same time trying to make history.
Earlier today, 750 couples participated in a vow renewal ceremony.
Pittsburgh's Mayor Luke Ravenstahl presided over the Sunday evening service called, 'Reunion: The World's Largest Wedding Vow Renewal Ceremony.'
The Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History teamed up with Visit Pittsburgh and other area groups to sponsor the event.
"To be part of history, to be honest, you may never get to experience something like this again," said participant Dan Durso.
"I think they're going to break the record and even if they don't it will still be part of Pittsburgh's history," said Durso's wife, Susy.
Officials say the number of marriage certificates collected tonight will be the determining factor of whether or not a new world record was set.
The current record is 272 couples, which was set in 2007 in Sydney, Australia.
