Local Post Office Honors Long-Time Married Couple
HOMESTEAD (KDKA) ―
To mark this romantic Valentine's Day, the local Post Office in Homestead decided to honor a couple who have been married for 65 years.
The Lukowski's say they have been living in the same house in Homestead for 58 years and just recently they were nominated by their postal carrier, James Fowler, for a special Valentine's award.
"They're just so kind, very polite. They just look after you," said Fowler. "They're very wise people, too. You can get a lot of good advice from them."
The couple was presented with a basket of Valentine's Day goodies in front of their family and friends.
"I don't really remember arguments," said the couple's daughter, Carol Wirth. "They would just kind of work things out. It was compromise, talking, working things out. They've always worked together as a team."
The couple also had some advice to young couples for making marriage work.
"You can't run to the divorce court the first time you get mad," said Catherine Lukowski. "You need to take time to discuss the things and work them out. They will work out, give them time."
She also said compromise is very important in marriage, and you can't win all the time.
