Beauty Editor's Picks: Make-Up Collections
(KDKA)
Did you get one of the make-up collections for Christmas with all the eye shadows, blush, etc.? Just looking at the whole thing can be confusing if you don't know how to use it. Here are some tips to sort it all out.
Eye shadows are usually grouped by color families or warm and cool shades. Light shades are worn from the lid to the eye brow, medium shades from the lid to the eye brow bone and dark shades are worn near the lash line.
Light eye shadow shades can be used as an eye shadow base or worn alone to help reduce darkness in the eye area. Use an eye shadow brush or the brush from a blush compact to get a one step application from lid to brow. Light eye shadows can be used over top a darker shade if you want to tone it down. Light shades can be used as a make-up"eraser" such as too much blush, then use a blush brush w/ light eye shadow over the hash shade to soften. Eye shadow w/ a bit of shimmer can be used to high light the cheek bone. Darker skin tones can use gold shades.
A color or medium shade can be applied w/ your finger for a light hint of color from the outer corner of your eye to the corner of your brow. Want more intense color? Use a sponge applicator. You can also mix colors to make new colors.
Darker shades are great for evening or, wet an eyeliner brush to use dark eye shadows as eye liner.
Shades of brown or shades close to your hair color can be used as eye brow color when applied with an eye brow brush.
Green eye shadow can be used as a color corrector to hide a blemish. Green counters red so dab a bit of green on the blemish and cover with a concealer. Peach or red blush can do the same for dark circles under the eyes that have a green cast, such as in olive skin tones. Yellow can do the same for fair skin tones who's dark circles appear more blue. Just make sure you cover area with concealer or foundation after this trick!
Some brown shades of blush can be used as a bronzer or top the brown blush with a hint of gold eye shadow for a shimmer bronze look. Always use a blush or powder brush for this step to make sure you blend well.
Dark lip sticks can be made lighter by using a lighter shade of lip stick or gloss on top. Lighter lip sticks can be made darker by using a dark lip pencil before you apply the lip color. You can also mix lip color shades on the back of your hand and apply to lips with a lip brush.
Dark shades of eye shadow and blush can be saved to be used in the summer when you have a tan.
The secret to mixing and blending is the correct brushes for smooth applications.
