Beauty Editor's Picks: For Men
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
In addition to shaving, men might have other skin care needs. Here are problems that you may need to address.
Working out at the gym can cause break outs on your face, scalp and back from sweating. After your work out, use a body wash with salicylic acid such as Neutrogena Clear Body Wash, found at drug and grocery stores.
Also, men who shave their heads may want to use this on a daily basis if you have problems with breakouts on your scalp.
Summer outdoor sports and jogging, you should use an SPF of at least 15 to protect your skin from the sun. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Block w/ helioplex is perfect because it is not greasy and will cut down on the white heads(bumps under the skin) that can form after a season of constant SPF use. The same break outs as above can happen in the summer, so use the body wash w/ salicylic acid if needed.
Winter sports, use an SPF in the winter too. Sweating while dressed in layers can cause itchy skin so, rub some Gold Bond body powder on your skin before you get dressed to absorb sweat and help stop the itch.
Other winter problems, dry hands. Use a scrub when you wash your hands, rinse and apply a bit of fast absorbing(will say on the bottle or tube) hand cream while your hands are still moist. Dry lips, use Chap Stick w/ SPF.
Other products for men:
Eye cream, to help soften the look of crows feet around the eyes.
Night cream, using this at night keeps the skin moist for a better shave in the a.m.
Day moisturizer, after a shave to prevent dry, tight skin.
Anti-aging creams, to improve the look of the skin and fade age spots.
Nail buffer, to groom finger nails.
Just a reminder for shaving to help prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs. Wet beard, shave in the direction of hair growth, avoid repeated strokes and keep skin relaxed, don't pull the skin. Apply an oil free moisturizer after shaving.
Another problem is the neck line of dress shirts causing a rash on the neck. Consider the laundry detergent if your shirts are washed at home, you may need to switch or try light starch on your shirts if they are dry cleaned. Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour cream is excellent for soothing this rash AFTER you take the shirt off at night. This cream also works for razor burn.
A few last suggestions:
Oil blotting sheets if you have really oily skin. These sheets blot the oil from your face without leaving any thing on the skin. Keep them in your desk drawer or brief case.
Self tanning products.
Eye brow tweezing, if you have a really full brow, a few hairs taken from between your eyes can really make a difference.
