Winter Blast Continues To Pummel Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The snowy weather has Pittsburgh in its wintry grip and this latest winter blast just doesn't want to let up.

The snow continues to fall steadily and is expected to continue throughout the night with sleet and freezing rain moving in.

A Winter Storm Warning went into effect early this morning and lasts through 6pm on Wednesday.

The warning covers our entire viewing area including Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington, Westmoreland, Greene, Fayette, Armstrong, Mercer, Venango, Lawrence, Forest, Clarion, and Indiana counties.

In the Pittsburgh area, we could see between five to eight inches through Wednesday.

While areas south of Allegheny County could receive between 3 to 4 inches of snow before it's all over.

And areas north of Pittsburgh where there is less of a chance for mixed precipitation could see eight to 12 inches of snow.

KDKA Meteorologist Rebecca Hower says the snow could also change to sleet and freezing rain at points in the storm.

"We'll continue to see these pockets of heavier snow throughout the morning hours creating some additional accumulations," she said. "As we see some warmer air trying to work its way in that will change things to sleet and freezing rain, perhaps this afternoon and this evening."

That will make driving hazardous throughout the day and especially during the afternoon commute.

Commuters are being warned to take it slow in their travels today and be extra cautious.

Stay with KDKA for complete weather coverage.
