Plan Unveiled For Permanent Casino, Spa At Meadows
NORTH STRABANE TWP. (KDKA) ―
Plans are now set for a permanent slots casino at the Meadows Race Track in Washington County.
The temporary facility has been open since June.
Today, plans were unveiled for the $155 million permanent casino and spa facility.
It's expected to open in early 2009 and will create 1,200 new jobs.
It came as somewhat of a surprise to learn that the Meadows will also be building a hotel.
"We think that with 200 rooms, it will enhance our casino," said Jay Boyd, Meadows Director of Marketing. "A lot of people we've talked to here said 'We'd like to come up but we want to stay overnight and we'd like to live in your casino for those two or three days we are going to be here.' "
Wagering at the temporary facility so far has exceeded expectations and projections.
In the meantime, racing at the Meadows will be suspended for about two months during the construction period.
The permanent casino will feature 3,000 machines, have a covered grandstand area overlooking the race track, a luxury spa, VIP boxes, three restaurants and a lounge.
