Thousands of gamblers flocked to Washington County to play at the first slots casino in southwestern Pennsylvania.
The temporary casino at the Meadows Racetrack opened its doors to the public for the first time this morning.
Hundreds waited in line to get a crack at approximately 1,700 slots machines. Bob Beno, from Washington, who often gambles in West Virginia, was first in line.
"It's a $20 bill that I'll be able to spend here instead of using it for gas to go to Wheeling," he said.
The new casino attracted people from all over the region.
"It's great so far. I'm playing the penny machine right now," Dana Austin, from Hazelwood, said. "I'm going to start off slow and then ease my way back up. But it's fun," she said.
Meadows owner Bill Paulos says he's encouraged by the more than 20,000 people who have already signed up for a frequent customer card with benefits.
"I'm very, very surprised that we had that many pre-sign ups," Paulos said. "It's wonderful. It also makes it easy for the folks that have pre-signed up to come in, get their cards and start playing right away."

Construction has already started for a poker room on the ground floor of the Wheeling Island Racetrack and Gaming Center.
