Black Gunk Covers Beaver Co. Town, Again
SHIPPINGPORT BOROUGH (KDKA) ―
Black gunk from an energy plant is once again covering everything in Shippingport, Beaver County.
A similar incident happened last summer when soot from First Energy's smoke stacks covered everything within two miles.
"Everything had black spots all over it," Paul Lampe, from Shippingport Borough, said. "Not as bad as it was
last year."
The company was out today power washing the black soot from affected properties.
First Energy is telling people to contact them if they have any damage to their property and they are looking into the cause.
The DEP is also investigating and awaiting results of samples they took on Monday.
In the meantime, the DEP is advising residents not to eat any food that has come in contact with the soot, avoid unnecessary exposure and to wash their hands after going outdoors.
