Rockslide Leaves Local Drivers On Edge

HARMAR TOWNSHIP (KDKA) ― With the massive rockslide overnight on Route 28 in Harmar Township many drivers are facing tough commutes today.

Crews continue to clean-up the rocks, boulders and debris that came crashing to the ground, but part of the roadway remains closed including a complete southbound lane closure.

Meanwhile, the delays and detours are leaving many drivers on edge trying to navigate around the slide.

"The commute is usually about 20 minutes, and it took us about an hour today," said Rob Crosky, the owner of a Sunoco station in Blawnox. "It's just backed up all the way to Hulton Bridge. I know it's just probably going to take an hour and a half to get there from here because it all goes down to one lane right here at the gas station so that backs everything up and you've got lights going into Blawnox."

Commuters also added that the rockslides are dangerous and if they continue someone is eventually going to get hurt.

"It's dangerous and annoying. Everyday it's something new," said Mike Wallace, who was headed to the hospital to pick up his girlfriend. "It's just crazy."

"It is unsafe up on 28 because you hear about this happening every month," adds Crosky. "Eventually somebody's going to get hurt."
