State Police say the arrest of a man accused of hurling rocks onto the Parkway West was the result of an aggressive investigation -- one that included night vision and surveillance cameras and troopers hiding in the woods, near the Parkway.
Police arrested 49 year Jeffrey Angelo Ramous.
They say he's admitted throwing 100 large rocks and bricks since 2005.
Those bricks struck at least a dozen vehicles on the parkway west during the overnight hours.
For people who normally drive on the parkway west, like Joe Christy of Oakmont, the arrest of the Parkway West rock thrower is especially reassuring news.
"When I go to my son's, and we visit people down there, I just don't use the Parkway because I'm afraid it will happen again, because it's been happening so much," said Christy. "So now, I can use the Parkway."
Christy was on the Parkway last November when an object struck his front windshield and went through the car and out the back window.
Luckily, neither Christy nor his wife was hurt in the incident.
Meanwhile, a man who lives across the street from Jeffrey Ramous in Scott Township was surprised by the arrest, describing the suspect as an ideal neighbor.
"I'm really shocked," said Mark Franc. "I've been here 4-1/2 years now. Jeffrey was one of them people who would help you out if you needed it. He would shovel people's sidewalks
always a very good neighbor, very pleasant, easy going, friendly. It's a real shock to me."
State police say they know the motive for Ramous' actions but, they are not disclosing the reasons at the present time.
Ramous faces ten charges, including aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and risking a catastrophe.
