As planning continues for a $290 million arena in Pittsburgh's Hill District, neighbors say they want their voices heard.
This evening, officials held a public meeting at Mellon Arena to discuss the master plan for the facility.
One Hill Coalition, which represents 16 organizations, says it wants to make sure residents aren't left out when it comes to the jobs, development and money that will come with the new arena.
The group tells KDKA they want a community benefits agreement that would be legally binding and protect the interests of the Hill.
When Mellon Arena was first built, it was a devastating blow to the Lower Hill community.
"The thriving business districts that existed in this community, they existed because there were 50,000 people here," Carl Redwood, a spokesperson for One Hill Coalition, said. "Those people were forcibly moved out. When the city had its first master plan for the Hill, which was to get rid of the Hill and join up downtown and Oakland."
Officials plan to hold more public meetings in the future.
