Drought Watch Persists Despite Recent Rains
by John Cater
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
With all the rain we've been having, you might be surprised to hear that our region is actually still under a drought watch.
The Department of Environmental Protection shows the entire state under a drought watch.
The National Weather Service agrees.
It is recording a rainfall deficit for the year so far.
But as KDKA's John Cater reports some Pittsburghers are finding it hard to believe.
Recently, Pittsburghers have gotten used to the routine of having the umbrellas out and raincoats on.
"A drought watch? I don't know what kind of a drought this is but it's certainly a wet one,"
said Steve Paff of Aspinwall. "No I can't believe it's under a drought watch with all of this weather, is it ever going to stop raining?
Randolph Thomas of Carrick said, "No... doesn't seem possible but then again they go on what? Percentage of water dropping? All depends on where it drops."
Some people think it's crazy to still be under a drought watch.
"I was thinking we're under more of a flood watch than under a drought condition," said Judy Kirby of Sewickley.
In the meantime, mother nature will, as she always has, continue to do as she pleases.
All we can do is hope for the best.
