Doctors: Smart Lipo Is A Less Invasive Alternative
(KDKA)
For some the idea of having liposuction can be scary, but now there is a less invasive procedure that can get rid of that stubborn excess weight.
The procedure is called Smart Lipo and the The Skin Center in Mount Lebanon is the only cosmetic surgery facility to offer it locally here in Pittsburgh.
Dr. Dominic Brandy, a cosmetic surgeon, says the procedure uses a laser to liquefy small amounts of fat and tighten the skin and it can be used all over the body.
Experts say the patient can come in, identify their problem spot, then the area is marked off, and numbed with anesthesia.
"You can do it anywhere. The neck is a common area, the arms. A lot of times women have problems with the arms. That's common," says Dr. Brandy. "Women that are post-menopausal, it's amazing how the fat starts accumulating on the back and then the flank area and the abdomen."
Doctors say the surgery takes less then an hour and is mostly pain free.
"This would be for somebody who's pretty much ideal weight, not that overweight, who has a stubborn area that they can't get rid of," Dr. Brandy said.
He says that the procedure has milder effects than regular liposuction surgery.
"Its much more gentle and then you get the skin tightening effect and the post-operative period is going to be a lot better because you have a lot less bleeding and bruising and swelling and so on and so forth," he says.
