Stick Up Lights - Do They Really Do That?
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
We all have dark areas of our homes where a light would help to brighten things up -- from a light over artwork to one in the closet.
That's why battery powered stick-up lights come in all shapes and sizes -- from a stick up light bulb that are usually prices 2 for $10 to smaller stick and click lights that sell for $3 to $10.
Quik Brite offers you ten tiny little lights for $15
But "Do they really do that? And for how long?
KDKA Consumer Editor Yvonne Zanos set out to find out.
Our tester, Dina Clark liked the idea at first, "I think it's a good idea because you can move them and put them wherever you like without doing the rewiring."
First we tackle the problem of shedding some light on Dina's hidden treasures.
We found the stick and click lights is be too directional -- it points straight down.
However, the Quick Brite lights did the trick.
It worked well in areas like inside a desk.
"Oh see, it's great I love it," said Dina. "It's so much brighter."
When it comes to reading, the tiny Quick Brite lights fall short.
However, the stick and click could work well in reading situations.
Next it was time for a test of the closet lights.
The Westinghouse stick-up bulb is the largest of the lights and the brightest.
It feels secure and our tester found it was easy remove the bulb from the base for portability or to replace the batteries.
The question is how long does it last?
If you forget to turn your stick up bulb off, you'll get 3.5 hours of light.
The Quik Brite lights were our biggest disappointment.
They shed a nice light at first then they noticeably dim.
The infomercial says they are great in drawers and in closets but we found them difficult to install in drawers so the magnet and the light connect,
It's easier in a closet but we think the Quik Brite lights are just not bright enough to work in big spaces.
If you leave on the stick and click lights, you can expect them to lasts the promised 100 hours
