Dog Kept Toddler Warm In Canonsburg

CANONSBURG (KDKA) ― A Washington County man made a strange discovery Wednesday morning.

Terry Bard awoke to find his dog sleeping on top of a toddler in a pen outside of his Canonsburg home.

He called the police and they recognized the boy, who lived a few homes away from Bard in the 100-block of Oak Spring Road.

The child was only wearing a T-shirt, and authorities weren't sure how long the he had been outside.

The husky-German shepherd mix named R.C. apparently kept the 2-year-old warm through the night.

Canonsburg Police say when they arrived at the child's home, the door was open and the boy's mother, Angela Harps, was asleep.

Harps is reportedly facing child endangerment charges.

Children and Youth Services placed the child with his maternal grandparents, according to the newspaper.
