'Citizen' Candidate Plans To Challenge Casey

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Before they can take on Sen. Rick Santorum, democratic voters are going to have to pick a candidate in the May primary.

This week, the best-known democrat – State Treasurer Bob Casey – found out that he has opposition for the nomination.

Chuck Pennacchio, 46, told KDKA's Jon Delano that before it's all over, democrats will pick him to take on Santorum in the November election.

"I'm not a candidate who's going to be manipulated; I'm not a candidate who's going to be controlled by outsiders, and I am not a candidate who's going to be controlled by money," Pennacchio said.

He calls Casey a career politician who's being pushed by Democratic Party leaders who can't win elections.

According to Pennacchio, the Pennsylvania Democratic Party has lost 14 straight full-term U.S. Senate elections.

"Do people want a career politician representing them in Washington, D.C., or do they want somebody who is a citizen candidate and true to the interests of Pennsylvanians," he asks.

And those interests, says Pennacchio, includes withdrawing troops from Iraq, raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour and protecting a woman's right to choose.
