Meeting Could Determine The Pens' Future

PHILADELPHIA (KDKA) ― A meeting between state officials, Penguins owners and representatives from the NHL could determine the future of the franchise in Pittsburgh.

The meeting in Philadelphia will be a face-to-face sit-down conference between Penguins' Owners Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle and Governor Ed Rendell, Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

The commissioner of the National Hockey League, Gary Bettman, will also be on-hand for the talks, along with the deputy commissioner.

Penguins' officials say they blame government officials for failing to cut a new arena deal.

Meanwhile, owners of the team have been actively talking to other cities interested in the team, including Las Vegas and Kansas City.

Houston dropped out of the running, after learning Kansas City sweetened its deal.

Although details haven't been released, the city's initial proposal offered the Pens a rent-free deal and half of the arena's revenues.
