Port Authority Riders Stage Rally To Protest Cuts

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Port Authority bus and light rail riders rallied in downtown Pittsburgh this morning in an effort to show that they are against proposed cut backs and fare increases.

"Basically what this will mean to the Allegheny County is an economic holocaust and it must be stopped at all cost," said Mary Carter with Unite Here Local 57.

"My parents cannot take me everywhere I want to go," said Minrose Straussman, who is a student. "So, I will have to quit taking arts classes, quit spending time with my friends and less time doing everything else."

The group gathered 12,000 signatures from supporters and marched to Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato's office to present them.

Despite the hyped up crowds, Onorato broke from a meeting to personally accept the signatures.

He told protesters that he sympathized with their concerns.

"I'm as frustrated as anybody right now because I'm trying to fix what they managed to screw up over two decades," said Onorato.
