Avonmore Bar & Grill Fire Under Control
AVONMORE (KDKA) ―
Fire crews battled an intense fire this afternoon at a restaurant in Westmoreland County.
Westmoreland County officials say the fire started at the Village Bar & Grill on 5th Street in Avonmore.
Crews say that the restaurant and an apartment upstairs have been destroyed in the fire.
Crews spent more than three hours trying to bring the fire under control At one point, officials said the fire threatened the building next door, which houses the Avonmore Historical Society. The president of the Historical Society tells KDKA that several people ran inside the building to save artifacts.
KDKA's Mary Berecky reports that she talked with the restaurant owner at the scene who says 10 people were inside the building when the fire broke out, but all were able to get out safely.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
