Casino Issues Checks To 2 Washington Co. Charities
NORTH STRABANE TWP. (KDKA) ―
The slots casino at the Meadows in Washington County has been very successful since it opened its doors earlier this month.
This morning, casino officials shared some of that wealth with two worthy causes.
The Washington County Food Bank was presented with a check over $53,000 and Washington Hospital was handed a check for over $68,000.
The money was raised for charities over two test nights when guests were allowed to play the slot machines before the official opening.
KDKA's Bob Allen reports that the donation comes at a time when the hospital is starting a major expansion project.
The food bank is also thankful for the donation.
"We will be using to buy food and whatever else we need to do with it," said Nelly Chester of the food bank. "We serve 2,500 families a month plus. So this will be a shot in the arm for us in order to feed them."
Food bank officials say the timing couldn't be better because there is some concern whether the state is going to come through with funding in the upcoming budget.
