'Wings Over Pittsburgh' Show Promises Excitement
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
This weekend the skies of Pittsburgh will be filled with excitement at the annual Wings Over Pittsburgh Air Show in Moon Township.
In honor of the 60th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, jets will take to the skies and on the ground at Coraopolis' 911th airlift wind Saturday and Sunday, June 16 and 17.
Featured at the show will be an Air Force Reserves jet car -- a dragster combined with a turbo jet -- that revs from zero to 400 miles per hour in less than 9 seconds and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.
"It's your standard amusement park ride times 100," as an F16 Thunderbird pilot describes it.
More than 200,000 aviation enthusiasts are expected to attend.
Lt. Col. Skip Lamb, who pilots cobra attack helicopters with the Sky Soldiers, said in anticipation of the show, "Our initial maneuver is so dynamic that when the observers and the crowd will see them, they're going to go, 'We're really in for something special.'"
The event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and concludes Sunday.
Admission and parking to the air show are free.
