12-Year-Old Shooting Victim Dies

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) ― A 12-year-old boy has died following a shooting in Wilkinsburg.

Police say the victim, identified by the Medical Examiner's office as Kholen Germany, of Wilkinsburg, was on Wood Street standing in front of the "From Head to Toe" store just before 7 p.m. Friday.

Someone from across the street fired five or six shots hitting Germany in the shoulder.

Germany was taken to Children's Hospital where he died overnight.

Police say Germany was a popular kid in the neighborhood.

They want the public's help in finding the gunman.

"There were three customers in the store at the time of the shooting and when the police came, they were gone," said Jim Morton of Allegheny County Police. "We want those three to come forth with what information they have and also it's ten to seven in the evening, there were a number of people out in the area. We are asking anyone with information to come forward because this is an innocent 12-year-old kid."

Assistant County Police Superintendent Jim Morton says Germany was not the intended target and they still don't know who was.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Allegheny County or Wilkinsburg Police.

An autopsy revealed Germany died from a gunshot wound to the trunk.
