Penn Hills Father: The System 'Failed My Family'
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
The father of 11-year-old twins in Penn Hills who police say were stabbed by their brother is speaking out.
Troy Hill, Sr., father of the victims and the suspect, says his family tried unsuccessfully to get help for 18-year-old Troy by getting him committed to Western Psych the day before the stabbings.
Troy's uncle, Ron, told KDKA his nephew was showing signs of depression and acting erratically. But Western Psych advised the family to observe Troy because he was 18 and up until Monday, had not shown any signs of violent behavior toward himself or anyone else.
"Troy has problems and has been sick for a while and the system has failed him very much," Hill's father, Troy Sr., said. "The system needs to change through Western Psych because they have failed him. They have failed him very much and have failed our family."
"They go over to his house and he tells them exactly what's been happening and then have the audacity to say ... 'We'll monitor him and we'll see what's going to happen,'" Attorney Jim Ecker said.
According to his father, Troy had been hearing dolls speak to him and Ecker said he was "very, very paranoid."
Meantime, the surviving twin, Tyrel, is making progress and is listed in critical, but stable condition.
Tyron's funeral is planned for Wednesday.
