Shanksville Memorial Chapel Draws Many Visitors

SHANKSVILLE (KDKA) ― Services were held throughout the day today at the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel.

The reverend who founded the chapel said Americans will never forget what happened in Shanksville on September 11, 2001.

This morning, veterans came from as far away as California to honor the heroes aboard that flight as the names of each person were read aloud.

One group of people who called themselves Torches Across America drove more than 13,000 miles to reach the Flight 93 Memorial Chapel and to ring thunder bell in honor of the passengers and crew members who fought four hijackers and sacrificed their lives in a remote field in Somerset County.

"They are true Americans," said Bar Porter of Torches Across America. "I mean that is the American spirit. We won't take anything from anybody. We will defend ourselves when we are given the opportunity."
