Seneca Valley Teachers Walk The Picket Line
CRANBERRY TWP. (KDKA) ―
Classes have been canceled as teachers in the Seneca Valley School District walk the picket lines.
The teachers union gave their strike notice last week and are now striking.
Administrators and union officials did not manage to meet an agreement over the course of the weekend.
The main sticking points appear to be salaries and health benefits.
However, extracurricular activities have not been canceled.
The district's 575 teachers have been working for two years without a contract.
There are nearly 8,000 students in the district.
The shutdown effects nine schools.
Pennsylvania school teachers are allowed to strike, but are limited by a law requiring them to provide 180 days of instruction by June 15.
