Schenley HS Students Help Wounded Soldier

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The students at a local high school rallied around one of their alumni today after he was seriously injured fighting in Iraq.

Army Specialist James Fair, a graduate of Schenley High School, was completely blinded after a bomb detonation in November of 2003. He lost both his hands and was left with shrapnel throughout his body causing injuries to his right leg and a traumatic brain injury.

A special home, which is made possible through donations from local companies and citizens, is now being built for Fair in Ross Township.

Today, at the Schenley football game against Peabody, Fair was the guest-of-honor. He was presented with a special jersey and more than $1,300 in donations.

"I think it's a great thing what they're doing for him," said Lonnie Mosco, "to bring him back to the school he came from is really great."

Fair, who says he wants to study child psychology at Pitt, adds that he was grateful for the donations.

"I'm just glad I'm here," he said. "I've got my family behind me and they support me a lot."
