Rock Slide Damages Vehicles On Route 28

SHARPSBURG (KDKA) ― For the second time in a week, rocks slid down onto Route 28 this afternoon.

This time, the debris damaged a car.

State police say that eight cars sustained flat tires as a result of the shale that broke away and landed on Route 28 near Sharpsburg.

The shale broke into small, sharp pieces, puncturing the tires of more than a half-dozen vehicles.

While the cause for the rockslide has not yet been determined, officials speculate that the recent heavy rains played a part.

Just yesterday, a large boulder fell along Route 28.

A boulder about the size of a pickup truck fell along the southbound lanes of the highway between the Harmar and RIDC Park Exits.
