Accident Caused More Problems For Rte 28 Commuters
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ―
Commuters who rely on Route 28 to get to work have been dealing with delays and lane restriction following Wednesday's rock slide; but an accident on the highway this morning made matters even worse for many of them.
Around 8am, a driver heading north on Route 28 near the 31st Bridge apparently lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the southbound lanes.
The accident blocked traffic in both directions for a short time, causing traffic to back up for miles.
Though traffic was flowing again on the southbound side of the highway a short time later, northbound traffic had to funnel into a single lane until crews could clear the accident.
The backups caused even more congestion for morning commuters along Route 28.
Farther down the highway, traffic remains in a single lane in each direction on the heels of a major rock slide earlier this week -- sending huge boulders crashing down onto the highway.
While crews work to assess the safety of the hillside and develop a plan to get the road back open, traffic will continue to move into a single lane in each direction between Exit 11 and Exit 10 in Harmar Township.
