Route 28 Opens After Overnight Rockslide

HARMAR (KDKA) ― A rockslide overnight shut down a section of Route 28 for several hours.

Large chunks of rocks fell on the highway in Harmar Township near Powers Run Road.

According to State Police, the recent rainfall and cold temperatures may have contributed to the slide.

No cars were hit by any of the debris.

"There was a large boulder that came down and actually crossed the median into the northbound lane," said State Trooper Chris Robbins. "Based upon that, we shut the southbound lane."

PennDOT cleaned up the rocks and all lanes were open for the morning commute.
