Parade Set To Celebrate Super Bowl Champs

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― The city will host a parade through downtown this morning to celebrate the Steelers' Super Bowl win.

The parade, featuring marching bands and confetti, will begin at 11 a.m. at Mellon Arena, the home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, and end at Point State Park, just across the river from Heinz Field.

Mayor Bob O'Connor's office said that Steeler players, coaches and owners will participate.

"(The) parade will be a great opportunity for this region to honor this amazing team and the Rooney family for bringing the Vince Lombardi trophy back to the City of Champions," Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato said.

Officials encouraged those watching the parade to bring confetti.

If the pep rallies of the last two weeks are any indication, thousands of Steelers fans are likely to attend.

Two large pep rallies, including one at Heinz Field, were held leading up to Sunday's Super Bowl XL in Detroit.

The parade will travel along Centre Avenue before turning onto Sixth Avenue, then onto Fifth Avenue, and then onto Liberty Avenue on the way to Point State Park.

The Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 to win their fifth Super Bowl championship since the team was founded in 1933.
