PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) ―
Residents will get a chance to weigh in on the Penguins' new arena plan at a special meeting tonight at Mellon Arena.
Penguins and city officials will be on hand for tonight's meeting.
People who attend will also be able to sign up for focus groups that will be a part of the master planning for the $290 million arena project.
Residents who attend the meeting will be asked to join one of six groups that will contribute to the planning process: residents; churches and social organizations; community organizations and neighborhood groups; city and public agencies, business and land owners; and various historic preservation groups.
More such meetings will be held throughout the summer.
The Penguins' new arena will be built just across the street from the team's current home.
Demolition started two months ago in the lower Hill District to make way for the new facility.
The Penguins have been working with HOK, the same architectural firm that worked on plans for PNC Park and Heinz Field.
The new arena will hold 18,500 seats -- 1,500 more than Mellon Arena has now.
The planning meeting will be held tonight at 6pm in the Igloo Club.
