Local Girl Expected To Recover After VT Shootings

GIBSONIA (KDKA) ― A 2006 graduate of Pine-Richland High School was a victim of the violent shooting rampage at Virginia Tech today.

Family members tell us that Hilary Strollo, a native of Gibsonia, is expected to recover after being shot twice in that massacre.

Strollo, 19, had to undergo surgery this afternoon. She is a freshman at Virginia Tech and her older brother, Patrick, is a senior at the school. Their little sister, Sarah, is a senior at Pine-Richland High School.

Now friends of the Strollo family say they are relieved that Hilary is going to recover.

"Sarah got a call from her mother, and that's how we learned," says Dr. Laura Davis, Pine-Richland High School's principal. "We learned from Mrs. Strollo, and then we turned the TV's on, and we learned this is a huge tragedy."

Davis says as many as two dozen Pine-Richland graduates are now attending Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech freshman, Brandon Morgan, is also a Pine-Richland graduate. He is friends with the Stollo siblings and was on campus when the shooting started.

"Hilary is a good friend of mine," he said. "She lives a couple of floors beneath my dormitory. We hang out all the time. Her brother rushed to the hospital. I was completely shocked."

Morgan said there was complete chaos on campus when the shootings happened.

"I looked out the window, there's all kinds of state troopers, policemen, assault rifles, shotguns, tons of ambulances rolling by," he told KDKA. It was complete chaos."
