The Peregrine Falcons chicks who reside atop the Gulf Tower in downtown Pittsburgh were marked with identification bands today.
The four chicks, three girls and one boy, were temporarily removed from their nest this morning given their shots, weighed and banded in preparation for when they are old enough to fly.
"We can check somewhat on the health of the birds," says Charles Bier, of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. "We check on their migration patterns."
The birds make their home on the 37th floor of the building just outside the windows of the Make A Wish Foundation offices.
The staff of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy built the birds nest back in 1991.
So far, 59 chicks have successfully hatched at the Gulf Tower.
