Downtown Development Projects Announced

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― Downtown Pittsburgh took another step toward turning itself into the city's newest and biggest neighborhood.

A pair of downtown development projects was revealed this morning.

The cultural trust made their announcement at the intersection of
Ft. Duquesne Boulevard and 7th Street- the place where they see a whole new neighborhood taking shape.

Seven hundred new residential units from high rises to mid rises to townhouses are planned.

"We're going to have residences that fit lots of different lifestyles," said developer Susan Eastridge. "Homes that will range from 700 square feet up to 3200 square feet. Lots of different price ranges. Lots of different life styles will be accommodated with a huge emphasis on the arts as you might imagine."

They also envision prices to start at about $200,000 and they expect to make use of the river.

Across town, PNC revealed its design for the area that is now abandoned on Fifth Avenue between Wood Street and Liberty Avenue.

It will be a 23-story office and condominium complex called Three PNC Plaza.

The timing of the announcements is tied to the national exposure the city is receiving this week.

"Obviously the announcement for this project was picked because of the All-star game going on right now," said Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato. "We have the national spotlight but we also have a lot of individuals who might not otherwise be in this city that are here right now.

"They're going to see this," Onorato added, They're going to hear about this and they become our ambassadors when they leave here."
