One day after a New Castle High School student died in an apparent drug overdose, one of her classmates is now facing charges in connection with her death.
Erica Million, 16, died at Children's Hospital yesterday less than a week after police believe she snorted several Oxycontin pills that she allegedly got from a classmate.
Investigators say snorting three of these powerful painkillers is the equivalent of taking 48 Percocet pills.
At a news conference this afternoon, the Lawrence County district attorney announced that police arrested another 16-year-old on drug charges in connection with the case.
Police charged the New Castle High School sophomore with possession with intent to deliver.
According to authorities, several students came forward with information in the case which helped lead to the charges.
At this point, the 16-year-old student is charged as a juvenile, but that could change.
Authorities are still awaiting toxicology tests. They say if the results reveal that the drugs caused Million's death, more charges are possible.
In the meantime, grief counselors are on hand at the high school to help students cope with the death of their classmate.
