Suspect In Deli Clerk Shooting To Stand Trial

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) ― A teenager from North Carolina will stand trial for the fatal shooting of a local deli clerk.

Investigators say 16-year-old Eric Hancock of Greensboro, North Carolina, shot and killed 28-year-old Jamal Mouzaffar, of Syria, during a robbery in Mount Oliver.

Mouzaffar's family say he was working at his uncle's A & F Deli Food Mart while he was here on a medical visa.

Police say Hancock shot Mouzaffar even though he didn't resist the robbery and gave up the cash.

Officials say Hancock was visiting relatives in the area at the time of the shooting.

Today in court, his attorney said Hancock's cousin may have also played a part in the crime.

Hancock's attorney adds that her client's cousin has not been charged, but police are investigating his possible involvement.
