Erie Collar-Bomb Suspect's Father Speaks
(KDKA)
A woman charged in connection to the collar-bomb death of a pizza delivery man who allegedly robbed a bank in Erie four years ago faces arraignment tomorrow.
Marjorie Diehl-Armstrong is accused of being the mastermind of the plot. Investigators say she wanted to use the money from the robbery to hire a hit man to kill her father. She was indicted yesterday.
Her father, Harold Diehl, says he wasn't shocked to learn from federal prosecutors the reason why his daughter needed the money.
"She was thinking of killing me and that's what I heard years ago and she did a lot of thinking and most of it didn't amount to nothing so I figured that didn't amount to nothing either," he said.
He described his daughter as intelligent, valedictorian of her high school class and a straight A student. He says he still doesn't know why or how it all went wrong for her.
"Things don't stay wonderful and I don't know where she went wrong or whatever happened," Diehl said.
Diehl-Armstrong, 58, has a history of mental problems, including bi-polar disorder and schizophrenia. She's already serving time, accused of murdering her boyfriend shortly before the collar-bomb death of Brian Wells.
Her father says he doesn't plan on attending any of her court proceedings.
